    Roadtest: The Manduca baby carrier

    MANDUCA CARRIER REVIEW

When my son was born, it soon became apparent that he was my little baby koala and that when he was having a bad day he was most comforted when held close. When he was a tiny little newborn, carrying him around while I went about my day wasn’t much of an issue.

But as he grew it became increasingly difficult and awkward for me to carry him around, as my arthritis kicked in during the cooler months. This is when I began my search for the perfect baby carrier that would not only be super comfortable for my son, but also supportive and comfortable for my poor arthritic body.

Manduca was kind enough to give me the opportunity to try out their Classic Baby Carrier, and the opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time. My son is now 7 months old, very much a little sticky beak and wanting to be in everyone’s business, yet he still feels safer exploring the big world when snuggled up to Mummy.

There is predominantly two scenarios I need the carrier for. I need a way to carry Mr. Ashton around comfortably when getting things done around the house, and an easy to use carrier that I could throw on when out running quick errands with the boys.

The first thing that struck me about the Manduca Baby Carrier is that once it was adjusted to my body, it was easy to throw on and get the little man strapped in ready to go. The instructions that came with the carrier are simple, easy to follow and great for fellow Mummy’s who have been struck down with a serious case of Baby Brain and Sleep Deprivationitis!

My little man loves being snuggled up in the carrier and is comfortable enough to have a little snooze when I’m out and about. The carrier is also breastfeeding friendly and comes with a little hood/weather protector/cover which is hidden in it’s own handy little pocket and easy to take out when needed. It is also extendable to provide extra cover when breastfeeding or if you require extra support when baby is asleep.

I have to admit that one of my favourite features is that it is machine washable and dries quickly. If like me, you prefer baby products that are easy to clean and wash, than I highly recommend the Manduca Baby Carrier. All you need to do is throw it in the wash and it comes out as good as new.

My biggest concern regarding a baby carrier was that it would put strain on my back and cause my arthritis to flare. I did not have a problem with the Manduca Baby Carrier. It is very padded in all the right places, with cushioned shoulder straps and a padded support belt around the waist, with the additional strap across the shoulders ensuring that the carrier is correctly positioned and the weight distributed evenly to minimise any back, shoulder and neck strain.

The carrier doesn't just position me properly, but also my baby. The Manduca positions him in the 'M' position, which means that his legs and hips are positioned correctly.

All in all, I found the Manduca Baby Carrier to more than meet all the expectations I required from a baby carrier:

    • Comfortable
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to fit and use
    • Supportive
    • Nursing friendly
    • Adjustable according to use / weather
    • Erganomic
